I think the best way to ensure writing takes place effectively is to map out a plan for the entire semester (or year). Otherwise I find that the writing piece is eclipsed by the many other curricular needs. But writing is such a great means to those other needs too, so I try to think of not only major writing pieces but also when I want to incorporate writing to learn.
