  1. success... that is a tough word. It was not my most successful, but I think the students learned the most when struggling through the research paper. (Ex. one MUST cite sources when writing a research paper.)

  2. Multi-genre pieces over Catcher in the Rye didn't suck too much.

  3. Journaling continues to be a success for me in terms of informal writing. A formal type of writing I have success with is the multigenre research paper. This year, I allowed students to choose whatever they wanted to research.

  6. I had my students create their own myths to explain the origin of something in nature. It helped them connect to the mythology unit.

  7. My most successful assignment has been one where students discussed their views on fate via a blog. Almost all of them wrote over 300 words in their responses! I think they loved the open-endedness as well as hearing how their peers viewed the mysterious topic.

  8. It's a little something I like to call 'Twain for the Brain.' Students wrote an impromptu, persuasive piece in regard to "The Lowest Animal." Many agreed that humans suck and had much to say on that- with proof to back it up.

  9. I believe my final project of the semester, the informative/persuasive speech was my most effective teaching tool. Every student was required to outline a contempory issue. An example would be: Could the humantarian crisis in Hati been avoided? Most of my students' finally realized that their speech was a collection of facts and the development of their opinion, spoken in their own voice.

  10. The "Letter to the Editor" assignment my World Studies students wrote in response to whether or not Columbus Day should be celebrated as a National Holiday was an assignment in which the kids exhibited interest. The assignment was a part of the "Christopher Coloumbus Trial" project which they really enjoyed, but they also earned extra credit if they submitted thier letter to the TH. That helped.
