I am not sure as to how to get students to buy into the basics of writing. If it is said to be another form of text messages it might give the teacher an up.
Practice, Practice, Practice! The more they do they better they will become, even if it is short and informal writing. Since there are multiple Angies in the house, this is Angie Breitbach.
From My Access! assignments, I break down a problem area and teach it as a basic skill to improve clarity. It helps when the students see the error in their own writing; then they want to improve. It is such an advantage over doing drill work from a text.
